전 세계에서 약 200만 명이 사우디아라비아 메카를 찾을 것으로 예상된다. 이는 최대 규모의 국제 연례행사자, 수많은 이슬람교도의 영적 삶에서 가장 중요한 행사다.
이슬람의 5대 기둥 중 하나인 연례 메카 순례는 신체 및 재정적으로 순례가 가능한 이슬람교도라면 평생에 적어도 한 번은 완료해야 하는 의무사항이다. 이 의식은 영혼을 정화하고, 신에 순종하는 모든 이슬람교도의 평등과 연대를 보여준다.
메카 순례를 조직하는 책임은 사우디아라비아 정부에 있으며, 이 과정에서 두 개의 신성한 모스크인 King Salman bin Abdulaziz와 Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman이 직접 관여한다. 내달 4일 하지 성지순례가 끝날 때까지 대대적인 물류 임무가 발생하게 된다.
국제 순례자, 2017년 하지 위한 여행 이어가
지난 수년 사이 해외 순례자의 수가 대폭 증가했다. 1941년에는 24,000명이던 것이 2016년에는 132만5천 명으로 증가했다. 사우디아라비아에서 거주하는 지역 순례자를 포함해 작년에는 총 186만 명의 이슬람교도가 하지 성지순례를 다녀왔다.
80개국 이상
사우디 관료들은 사우디아라비아로 입국하는 대규모 순례자를 받고자 준비 작업을 했다. 이들 순례자 중 상당수가 두 번째 성스러운 도시인 메디나도 방문한다. 지상에 파견된 하지팀은 순례자의 수요를 충족시키고자 10가지가 넘는 언어를 구사한다.
미나(Mina)의 대형 텐트 도시
미나는 텐트의 도시로도 불린다. 올해 하지 성지순례에 참여하는 순례자 중 상당수가 임시 거처로 사용할 수만 개의 텐트가 미나에 설치되기 때문이다. 이들 텐트에는 공기조화 장비도 설치된다. 미나는 아라파트 산과 메카의 그랜드 모스크 사이에 있는다. 텐트는 깔끔하게 줄지어 정렬되고, 국적에 따라 숫자와 색으로 구분되는 구역으로 배치된다. 모든 순례자에게 숫자와 색이 다른 배지가 발급되는데, 이 배지는 길을 잃을 경우 자신의 텐트로 돌아가는 방법을 알려준다. 화재 예방을 위해 테플론이 코팅된 섬유 유리로 텐트를 만들고, 스프링클러와 소화기를 배치한다.
하지 성지순례자를 위해 17,000명이 넘는 민방위 대원 배치
순례자에게 가장 높은 수준의 안전성을 보장하고자 17,000명이 넘는 고도로 훈련된 대원과 3,000대에 달하는 첨단 차량을 배치한다.
300개의 지상 구급차, 30대의 오토바이, 113개의 응급센터, 8대의 환자 수송기
하지 성지순례 중에 순례자에게 응급서비스를 제공하고자 메카, 메디나 및 기타 성스러운 장소에 2,000명이 넘는 사우디 적신월사(Saudi Red Crescent Authority) 대원을 파견할 예정이다.

Saudi Arabia Says 1.497 Million Pilgrims Arrive for Hajj

JEDDAH, Saudi Arabia, August 26, 2017/PRNewswire/ -- Saudi Arabia has to date welcomed 1.497 million pilgrims who have flocked to the country in preparation for the annual Islamic Hajj pilgrimage, which is due to begin on August 30, 2017.

In total, around two million people from across the globe are expected to visit the Holy City of Makkah, Saudi Arabia, making it the largest annual international gathering, and which, for many Muslims, is the highlight of their spiritual lives.
As one of the five pillars of Islam, the annual pilgrimage to Makkah, is mandatory for physically and financially capable Muslims to perform at least once in their lives. The rituals involved are intended to cleanse the soul and demonstrate the equality and solidarity of all Muslims, in their submission to God.
The responsibility for organizing the pilgrimage falls on the government of Saudi Arabia, under direct supervision of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz and the Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman; a huge logistical undertaking that will run until Hajj ends on the 4th of September, 2017.
International pilgrims continue to travel to Hajj 2017
The number of foreign pilgrims has multiplied exponentially over the years, from as few as 24,000 in 1941 to 1.325 million in 2016. Including local pilgrims that reside in Saudi Arabia, a total of 1.86 million Muslims performed the Hajj last year.
Over 80 Countries
Saudi officials have prepared to receive the massive influx of pilgrims, many of whom also visit the second Holy City of Madinah. The Hajj team deployed on the ground speaks over a dozen languages to ensure that the needs of pilgrims are met.
Vast tent city in Mina
Mina is also known as the City of Tents as it hosts tens of thousands of air-conditioned tents as temporary accommodation for a significant portion of the pilgrims expected to take part in Hajj this year. Mina is located between Mount Arafat and Makkah's Grand Mosque. The tents are neatly arranged in rows and grouped into areas labeled with numbers and colors according to nationality. Every pilgrim is given a badge with an assigned number and color to help them find the way back to their tent if they get lost. To prevent fires, the tents are constructed of Teflon-coated fiberglass, and are fitted with sprinklers and fire extinguishers.
More than 17,000 Civil Defense personnel deployed to serve Hajj pilgrims
More than 17,000 highly trained personnel, supported by 3,000 advanced vehicles, are in position to guarantee pilgrims the highest level of safety.
300 ground ambulances, 30 motorbikes, 113 ambulance centers and 8 air ambulances
Over 2,000 Saudi Red Crescent Authority personnel deployed in Makkah, Madinah and other holy sites to provide ambulance services to pilgrims during Hajj.
