A man was sued by a woman for defamation of character. She charged that he had called her a pig. The man was found guilty and fined. After the trial he asked the judge, “Does this mean that I cannot call Mrs. Taylor a pig?” The judge said that was true. “Does this mean I cannot call a pig, ‘Mrs. Taylor’?” the man asked. The judge replied that he could indeed call a pig ‘Mrs. Taylor’ with no fear of legal action. Now the man looked directly at Mrs. Taylor and said, “Good afternoon, Mrs. Taylor!”
여자가 명예를 훼손당했다면서 한 남자를 고소했다. 자기더러 돼지라고 했다는 것이다. 남자는 그 죄가 인정돼 벌금형을 언도받았다. 재판이 끝나자 그는 판사에게 물었다. “테일러 부인을 보고 돼지라고 해서는 안 된다는 말씀이신가요?” 판사는 그렇다고 대답했다. “그러면 돼지를 보고 ‘테일러 부인’이라고 불러도 안 된다는 말씀이신가요?” “돼지더러 ‘테일러 부인’이라고 부른다고 해서 법적으로 문제될 건 없어요.” 판사의 대답이었다. 그러자 이 남자는 테일러 부인을 정면으로 바라보고 “안녕하십니까, 테일러 부인”이라고 하는 것이었다.
