(파리 2017년 9월 30일 PRNewswire=연합뉴스) 카타르 교육, 과학 및 사회 발전 협회 회원기관인 Hamad Bin Khalifa 대학(이하 HBKU)과 파스퇴르 연구소는 지난 금요일 파리에서 양해각서(MOU)를 체결하며, 생명의학 연구 분야에서 긴밀한 협력을 위한 새로운 협력관계를 발표했다. 해당 분야에서 집중적인 연구를 수행하는 두 기관은 학술, 연구, 교육, 지식공유 분야에서 협업해 나아갈 예정이다. 이 합의서는 이달 29일에 파리 파스퇴르 연구소 Salle des Actes에서 진행된 행사에서 HBKU 의장이자 카타르 협회 부회장 겸 CEO Sheikha Hind bint Hamad Al Thani와 파스퇴르 연구소장 Christian Brechot 박사가 서명했다.
카타르 주프랑스 대사 Khaled Al Mansouri, HBKU 총장 Dr. Ahmad M. Hasnah가 양 기관의 고위 관리와 함께 행사에 참석했다.
Sheikha Hind는 이번 새로운 협력관계에 대해 “HBKU는 전 세계에 영향력을 행사하고자 하는 열망을 갖고, 카타르 내에서 과학 연구 및 학문적 우수성을 고양시키는 데 있어 지속해서 최선을 다해 핵심적인 역할을 해오고 있다”며 “우리는 혁신과 교육에 있어 세계적인 선도기관이 되고자 하는 노력이 개교 이래로 다양한 성취를 이뤘다고 생각한다”라고 말했다.
이어 “오늘 우리 연구원, 학자, 교수 및 학생은 파스퇴르 연구소와의 새로운 협력관계를 통해 건강관리, 생명의학 및 유전자학에 있어 혁신적인 발견을 달성하는 것을 더욱 굳건히 해줄 것”이라고 덧붙였다.
혁신을 통한 연구 대학이 되며, 세계가 당면한 중대 과제를 해결하고자 하는 HBKU의 노력은 매년 빠르게 증가하고 있다. HBKU는 카타르 생명의학 연구소(Qatar Biomedical Research Institute, QBRI), 건강 및 생명과학대학(College of Health and Life Sciences)과 같은 연구소의 모기관이 될 뿐만 아니라, 지역 내 및 해외 협력사와 업무를 수행하면서 해당 지역 내 건강관리 및 연구에서 핵심적인 역할을 하는 기관이 되고 있다.
유명한 루이스 파스퇴르의 이름을 딴 파스퇴르 연구소는 130년 이상 감염성 질병을 예방하고, 이를 치료하는데 혁신적인 발견을 해오고 있다. 이 연구소는 10명의 노벨상 수상자를 배출했으며, 의학 및 생리학에서의 기여는 측정할 수 없는 수준이다. 오늘날 연구소의 파리 캠퍼스 내에 있는 130곳의 연구 집단은 생명의학 연구에서 전 세계적인 영향을 미치는 연구를 통해 기여하고 있다.

프랑스 주카타르 대사 Eric Chevallier는 “HBKU 의장이자 카타르 협회 부회장 겸 CEO인 Sheikha Hind bint Hamad Al Thani와 파스퇴르 연구소 소장 Christian Brechot 박사가 HBKU 총장이자 카타르 협회 회원 Ahmad M. HBKU와 파스퇴르 연구소 간 양해각서는 유전체학과 정밀 의학 분야 합동 연구와 학문 분야 협업에서 더욱 긴밀한 협업을 가능하게 한다. 이번 협력관계는 두 기관의 학생, 연구원 및 과학자가 2018년 초반부터 연구 프로젝트를 위해 함께 연구를 수행할 수 있게 한다.

Institut Pasteur Signs MoU with Qatar's Hamad Bin Khalifa University to Collaborate on Disease Prevention and Genomics Research
PARIS, September 28, 2017/PRNewswire/ -- Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU), a member of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development, and the Institut Pasteur signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Paris on Friday, announcing a new partnership to work closely in the field of biomedical research. The two research intensive entities will collaborate in the fields of academics, research, teaching and knowledge sharing. The agreement was signed by Her Excellency Sheikha Hind bint Hamad Al Thani, Chairperson of Hamad Bin Khalifa University, Vice-Chairperson and CEO of Qatar Foundation, and Dr. Christian Brechot, President of Institut Pasteur at a ceremony held in Paris' on September 29, 2017 at Salle des Actes, Institut Pasteur.
His Excellency Dr. Khaled Al Mansouri, Qatar's Ambassador to France, Dr. Ahmad M. Hasnah, President of HBKU, along with senior official from both institutions, were in attendance at the ceremony.
H.E. Sheikha Hind commented on the new partnership saying: "Hamad Bin Khalifa University has consistently and diligently played a prominent role in promoting and facilitating innovation, scientific research and academic excellence, in Qatar with the aspiration of global impact. The MoU between HBKU and Institut Pasteur will see a close collaboration in joint research and academic collaboration in the areas of genomics and precision medicine. The partnership will have students, researchers and scientists between from both entities working together on research projects as early as 2018.
The agreement will also see faculty and PhD students from the two institutions exercise more mobility between the campuses, for teaching and research. Beyond academics, they will actively work towards strengthening the healthcare infrastructure in Qatar, and build towards achieving the Qatar National Vision 2030. HBKU and Institut Pasteur will organize and facilitate conferences, seminars, workshops and trainings to raise awareness and inspire the coming generations of scientists in the field of genomics and the prevention of infectious disease and other research areas.
