[PRNewswire] 아랍에미리트, 유네스코 집행이사국으로 선출
(파리 및 아랍에미리트 아부다비 2019년 11월 22일 PRNewswire=연합뉴스) 아랍에미리트가 2019~2023년 기간에 대해 유네스코 집행이사회 자리를 확보했다고 발표했다. 아랍에미리트가 유네스코의 세 헌법 기관 중 하나에 이사회 임원으로 참가하는 것은 이번이 네 번째다. 아랍에미리트는 이 기회를 통해 유네스코의 사명과 목표를 더욱 도모할 계획이다.
아랍에미리트 문화지식개발부 장관 Noura Al Kaabi가 아랍에미리트 대표단을 이끌고 제40회 유네스코 총회에 참가했다. 그녀는 총회에서 수많은 관료, 문화부 장관, 교육부 장관 및 회원국 대표단 단장들을 만났다.
아랍에미리트는 107표를 획득하며 유네스코 집행이사회 자리를 확보했는데, 이는 과학, 교육 및 문화 부문에서 유네스코의 설립 원칙을 옹호하는 데 있어 아랍에미리트가 확실하게 일조할 것이라는 국제 사회의 신뢰가 반영된 것으로 보인다.

아랍에미리트는 앞으로 4년 동안 유네스코 집행이사회의 다른 회원국과 협력하면서 더 효율적이고 효과적인 유네스코를 구축할 계획이다.
아랍에미리트는 1971년 12월에 수립됐고, 1972년 4월 20일에 유네스코 회원국이 됐다. 지난 세월 아랍에미리트는 수많은 유네스코 프로그램에 중요하게 참여했고, 자금을 기부했으며, 전 세계인을 위한 자체적인 프로젝트를 구축했다. 2018년에는 유네스코 최대 기부국가 순위에서 6위에 올랐고, 현재 6개의 유네스코 위원회에서 활동하고 있다. 그뿐만 아니라 아랍에미리트에는 한 개의 유네스코 세계 유산 유적, 8개의 국가와 다국적 무형 유산, 유네스코가 지정한 두 개의 창조 도시가 있다. 아랍에미리트는 120개가 넘는 유네스코 연합 학교를 세웠고, 유네스코의 후원으로 교육 계획을 위한 지역센터(Regional Centre for Education Planning, RCEP)를 운영하고 있다.

UAE Wins Membership on the UNESCO's Executive Board
PARIS and ABU DHABI, UAE, Nov. 21, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- The United Arab Emirates announced that the country won a seat on the Executive Board of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization for the tenure 2019-2023. This marks the fourth time that the UAE has won a seat at one of UNESCO's three constitutional bodies and will use the opportunity to further drive the organization's mission and goals.
Her Excellency Noura Al Kaabi, the Minister of Culture and Knowledge Development, headed the UAE delegation participating at the 40th session of UNESCO's General Conference, where she met with a number of officials, Ministers of Culture, Ministers of Education and heads of member states delegations.
Securing 107 votes, the win reflects the international community's confidence in the UAE's role in championing the founding principles of UNESCO across the scientific, educational, and cultural sectors.
HE Noura Al Kaabi said: "The UAE's appointment to the UNESCO's Executive Board reflects the wide acknowledgement of the country's prominent efforts in advancing initiatives in the fields of culture, science and education. This significant milestone is a recognition of our firm belief in the power of UNESCO to bring about peace and prosperity to nations worldwide. Over the next four years, the UAE will work alongside the other members states of the Executive Board towards a more efficient and effective UNESCO.
The UAE was founded in December 1971, and on 20 April 1972, it became a member of UNESCO. Over the years, the UAE has significantly participated in many of UNESCO's programmes, donated funds, as well as developed home-grown initiatives for the benefit of people from around the world. In 2018, the UAE was ranked as the 6th top voluntary donor to UNESCO and currently holds membership on six UNESCO committees. Additionally, the country has one site inscribed on UNESCO's World Heritage List, eight national and multinational Intangible Heritage inscribed, two cities designated as Creative Cities by UNESCO, established over 120 UNESCO associated schools, and hosts the Regional Centre for Education Planning (RCEP) under the auspices of UNESCO, amongst many other initiatives.
